APRIL AND MAY MORNING PRAYER NEWS

As part of Dave's deacon training, he has been attending a class through the diocese.  This class was open to all, so Margaret has been attending too.  Part of this course was to write a litany.  Rather than morning prayer on Sunday, April 28, Dave will be presiding a litany he wrote for Earth Day.  Margaret's will be in place of morning prayer on May 26.  Her litany is for mental health awareness.  Since the lessons for that Sunday will not be the lectionary inserts, I will not be preparing a bulletin.  Booklets will be provided for these services.  The regular Sunday lessons and prayer list will still be put in this newsletter.  Let's try to give Dave and Margaret our support, for all the work they have put into this.

Sunday, April 28 - Litany for Earth Day - Dave Cook presiding

Sunday, May 26 - Litany for Mental Health - Margaret Stiling presiding

Paperwork has obtained and filled out for the rental of two garden plots (#10 and #11) from the City on the south side of the power canal bridge off of Bingham Ave. The City will add compost and till up the plots. Hoses and water hook ups are available for use. Once the ground is prepared and the weather is appropriate for planting....

Saturday, May 11 - 10:30 a.m. - Volunteers will gather at St. James to plant cold tolerant seedlings of various kinds. Some members are starting seeds in their homes for transplanting. There will be some seeds to share and distribute to those who can nurture some at home. Following the planting session, we will re-gather at St. James' for lunch hosted by Hilary Galey.  Another “planting bee” will be held (time and date tba) to plant warm weather seeds and bedding plants.

Sunday, June 9 - St. James' will host a parish picnic following the 10am service to celebrate the arrival of summer and the end of the school year. Hot Dogs and hamburgers will be provided by the Galeys. Please bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share at the picnic. If rain is in the forecast, we will gather in the undercroft. Grill masters and grills to cook the meats are needed. Please let a member of the MST know if you can help with this job. Outdoor or indoor games will be available for use at this event. Watch the e-newsletter and bulletin for further details.

Besides giving to the church to keep things running, we have another place donations can be made.

The "Youth Activity Fund."  This fund will help cover costs for youth functions that are planned by Katie Chipman-Begsma and the MST.  Donations will always be welcome to help fund these activities.  Please remember to put "Youth Activities" on the check memo line.

Pancake Breakfasts have started back up.  They are always held after the 10 a.m. service on the second Sunday of the month.  The next breakfast will be Sunday, March 10.

One last thing, another way to give back to St. James' is to volunteer or get involved when asked.

It takes all of us to keep St. James' going.
